File reviews
What is a file review?
A file review is often utilized by organizations when dealing with cost relief requests to the CNESST. Unlike a medical assessment, in which a physician conducts an examination of the individual, a file review does not involve any direct examination.
The physician reviews and analyzes the contents of the file and the relevant medical literature in order to answer the requester’s questions, which are often aimed at determining whether there are grounds for requesting cost relief from the CNESST. The opinion based on the file may be particularly useful for documenting the presence of a personal condition that could affect the medical progression of the occupational injury.
Additionally, there are instances when a requester may seek a physician's opinion regarding the causal relationship between the accident and their diagnosis in order to support their case before the Tribunal administratif du travail (TAT).
Why a file review?
In most cases, a file review is requested to document the presence and impact of a personal condition in the context of a workers' compensation claim. A medical expert prepares an opinion report after analyzing the mandate and the submitted medical file, as well as conducting a thorough review of relevant scientific literature.
This medical opinion can then be used to apply for cost relief from the CNESST, which can significantly reduce the financial impact of a work-related injury.
